Welcoming Baby Eleanor | West Michigan Fresh 48 Photographer

There is something so incredibly special about photographing a Fresh 48 session. The emotions are still fresh, the tiny details are brand new, and the love in the room is almost impossible to put into words. Last week, I had the honor of documenting one of the sweetest Fresh 48 sessions as this family welcomed their first baby girl, Eleanor.

From the moment I walked into the room, you could feel how loved she already was.

One of the most emotional parts of the session was watching her four older brothers meet their baby sister for the very first time. They were so gentle and curious, carefully peeking at her tiny fingers and softly cuddling close to mom and dad. It was clear immediately that Eleanor is going to grow up surrounded by so much love and protection.

These are the moments I love most during Fresh 48 sessions. The real, honest moments that happen naturally. No pressure, no posing perfection, just your family soaking in the first hours of welcoming your baby into the world.

We documented all the tiny details that change far too quickly. Her little features, the way mom held her close, proud siblings gathered around the hospital bed, and the overwhelming joy filling the room. These first moments become memories in the blink of an eye, and being trusted to preserve them is something I never take lightly.

Baby Eleanor, you are already so deeply loved 🀍

What Is a Fresh 48 Session?

A Fresh 48 session takes place within the first 24–48 hours after your baby is born, typically in the hospital, birth center, or even at home after delivery. These sessions focus on documenting your family naturally during those very first moments together.

Unlike a posed newborn session, Fresh 48 sessions are more documentary in style. They capture the emotions, connections, tiny details, sibling introductions, and all of the moments you never want to forget.

As a West Michigan Fresh 48 photographer, these are some of my favorite sessions to document because every family story is completely unique.

Tips for Planning Your Fresh 48 Session

1. Reserve Your Session During Pregnancy

Fresh 48 sessions are best booked during your second or third trimester so I can plan around your due date and remain on-call for your delivery window.

2. Don’t Stress About Perfection

Your room does not need to be spotless, and you do not need to feel fully β€œput together.” These sessions are about authenticity and preserving this season exactly as it is.

3. Keep Outfits Simple and Comfortable

Neutral tones, soft textures, and simple swaddles photograph beautifully. For parents and siblings, comfortable clothing in coordinating neutral colors works perfectly.

4. Timing Matters

Fresh 48 sessions are ideally photographed within the first two days after birth while baby is still tiny and sleepy and those first introductions are unfolding naturally.

5. Include Siblings

Some of the sweetest moments happen when older siblings meet baby for the first time. Their excitement, curiosity, and gentle cuddles make these sessions incredibly meaningful.

Grand Rapids & West Michigan Fresh 48 Photography

I photograph Fresh 48 sessions throughout Grand Rapids and West Michigan, including hospitals and birth centers in Grand Rapids, Holland, Muskegon, Grand Haven, Hudsonville, Zeeland, Jenison, and surrounding areas.

These sessions are designed to preserve the raw emotion and connection that fills those first hours after birth in a timeless and meaningful way.

Why These Sessions Matter

The first few days after welcoming your baby are a blur in the best way. Tiny yawns, wrinkly fingers, hospital bracelets, emotional tears, and the overwhelming feeling of finally holding your baby in your arms.

Fresh 48 sessions freeze those memories before they slip away.

If you are expecting and looking for a Grand Rapids Fresh 48 photographer or a West Michigan newborn photographer, I would love to help document these first moments for your family.
